Webinar Description: This webinar will cover  the topic of animal welfare assessment in laboratory mice on earth and how those principles can be applied to provide good welfare to mice in space at the International Space Station. The characteristics of enrichment are covered; what should be considered important to mice and how items we use on Earth may or may not be applied in space.

    Presenter: Dr. Brianna Gaskill, PhD, Purdue University

    Brianna received her PhD in Animal Behavior and Well-being from Purdue University and completed a 3 year postdoctoral position at Charles River. She returned to Purdue as a faculty member in 2014 and was awarded tenure in 2020. Her research has focused on developing new animal welfare assessment methodologies, rodent well-being, and elucidating the scientific impact of welfare problems in animal-based research.

    In 2020, Brianna started a position at Novartis as their 3Rs scientist where she works closely with disease area scientists to apply 3Rs strategies to improve animal welfare and drug discovery. Her research contributions have been acknowledged by receiving awards from the NC3R’s, the Swiss Laboratory Animal Science Association, and the International Society for Applied Ethology.

    Christina Barnes

    Christina Barnes is the Animal Care Program Manager at ImmunoPrecise Antibodies (Canada) Ltd. where she manages an animal care unit that develops antibodies for biotech and biopharma, and coordinates the animal care committee.  Prior to that she worked at the University of Victoria’s Biology Department and Animal Care Services.  She has also worked at the BC SPCA both in the wildlife rehabilitation center, Wild ARC, and the animal shelter.

    A dedicated advocate for the well-being and enrichment of laboratory animals Christina has over 25 years experience working with a diverse set of species and settings.  She is a leader in the field of laboratory animal science and plays an active role on the CALAS Board of Directors where she currently serves as past president, nominations chair, and national symposium chair.

    Cancellation/Refund Policy

    All cancellation/refund requests must be sent in writing to office@calas-acsal.org. Cancellation requests received prior to the registration deadline will be given a 50% refund. CALAS/ACSAL will not provide a refund after the registration deadline. If you are unable to attend the Webinar live, all webinars are recorded and registrants receive access to the recording following the Webinar.

    CALAS/ACSAL reserves the right to cancel or modify all events. If a Webinar is cancelled by CALAS/ACSAL, you will get the option to receive an adjustment on your bundle (if credits were used) or a full refund.
