Symposium Features

Learning Resource Centre (LRC)

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is a central feature of the Symposium. The LRC was introduced to CALAS in 2012. It is a volunteer-run area that is intended to provide you with an opportunity to share ideas about training and implementation of the 3 Rs. The LRC has on display: a variety of ‘tech tips’ and training tools (both commercially available and hand-crafted) and a practical hands-on area where you can try some of the tools on display.

All items and resources are on loan from the volunteers or from commercial vendors. We also welcome you to share your training tips and ideas! We know that many of you have great ideas on how to teach and train. Send us an email at symposium@calas-acsal.org if you have some time to volunteer or tools to share.

Trainer’s Lunch

We are excited to be hosting a Trainers’ Lunch at the symposium on Tuesday, May 9th. This lunch is open to Symposium attendees who currently train, or have an interest in learning more about training individuals who work with research animals. We invite you to join us for lunch and a facilitated conversation on a key topic in the Laboratory Animal field.  The format will include opening remarks and instructions, facilitated breakout discussions, and a wrap-up discussion with all attendees. Facilitators will be present at each table to assist you in navigating through various questions and resources related to this years’ topic.

Please, feel free to bring along your own questions and resources that would be of value to the group. Note that both French and English facilitators will be present at this event. We are looking forward to this opportunity to share ideas with each other to continue improving our effectiveness as trainers.
