Valuing the Human-Animal Relationship: Insights from Animal Philosophy


Webinar Description: This session uses animal philosophy to help us thinking through the complexities human-animal relationships. It introduces key concepts in the field and suggests potential ways these insights might reshape how we value and care for animals in science.

Presenter: Dr. Stephanie Rutherford, School of the Environment, Trent University

Stephanie Rutherford is an Associate Professor in the School of the Environment at Trent University, who thinks and writes about animal studies and the environmental humanities. Her most recent book is entitled Villain, Vermin, Icon, Kin: Wolves and the Making of Canada (2022), which considers the history of wolves in Canada. She is also the author of Governing the Wild: Ecotours of Power (2011) and co-editor of Methodological Challenges in Nature-Culture and Environmental History Research (2016) and Historical Animal Geographies (2018). Her research has also been featured in the Journal of Canadian Studies, Environment and Planning E, Dog’s Best Friend? Rethinking Human-Canid Relations, and Platform Review. CALAS/ACSAL will not provide a refund after the registration deadline. If you are unable to attend the Webinar live, all webinars are recorded and registrants receive access to the recording following the Webinar.

CALAS/ACSAL reserves the right to cancel or modify all events. If a Webinar is cancelled by CALAS/ACSAL, you will get the option to receive an adjustment on your bundle (if credits were used) or a full refund.
