Annual Symposium

The Annual CALAS/ACSAL Symposium is the premier networking and education event for the Canadian Laboratory Animal Science community.  


The Annual Symposium is taking place June 22-25, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at TCU Place. The Symposium is a unique 2-and-a-half-day event, 2 dedicated days of programming with networking and social events, a Trade Show consisting of 50+ exhibit booths, dedicated Trainers’ Lunch, 2 Keynote presentations from highly sought-after speakers, over 30 concurrent sessions and optional 2 full days of pre-symposium hands-on workshops. The Symposium regularly attracts 300 - 500 participants from across Canada and internationally.

Our theme is " Lighting the Path to Discovery” and encompasses the following areas:

  • Lighting the Path to Discovering Advancement and Refinement: animal care, health, welfare, and refinements in zebrafish and other aquatic species
  • Lighting the Path to Discovering Improvements: refined and advanced methods of anesthesia and analgesia in animal-based research
  • Lighting the Path to Discovering Innovation: new technologies, techniques, and innovative methodologies in animal-based research
  • Lighting the Path to Discovering Support: developments and systems for compassion fatigue support and employee well-being
  • Lighting the Path to Discovering Transparency: use of 3Rs and communication tools towards improved transparency regarding animal-based research
