We are looking for a highly motivated and organized individual who is reliable and has excellent communication still for a full-time Research Technician position at the Krembil Institute at University Health Network. While training specific to the laboratory will be provided, the ideal applicant will have a strong background in mouse genetics, mouse colony maintenance and molecular biology. Our fields of study are 1) vision science, primarily photoreceptor transplantation in retinal degenerative models and 2) cancer research, which is focused on understanding signaling pathway involved in medulloblastoma and glioblastoma formation; both area of research require involve several single and compound transgenic mouse lines. The principal role of the technician is to maintain and improve our mouse colony, to perform genotyping, PCR, basic behavioral testing and histology and immunochemistry techniques. Other laboratory duties include cleaning and maintaining a functional laboratory environment, making solutions and providing technical support for lab members and their projects.
Essential Duties: 1. Handling, breeding and maintaining mice in an established colony; animal identifying and tracking (ear punch); animal sexing and genotyping; generating new mouse lines; maintaining organized records-such as lab notebook and sample storage record2. Performing animal procedures including injections (subretinal, intraperitoneal, intramuscular) of cells and/or pharmacological compounds 3. Monitoring animals following various tumor implantation and generating death curves when needed
Bachelor's degree, preferably in a biological or biomedical science field, with strong knowledge of animal husbandry, laboratory procedures, laboratory equipment, and data collection; candidates with any equivalent combination of education and/or experience will also be considered.
This is a term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with the possibility of renewal.
