Position Description:

The Pre-Clinical Department provides care to animals used by CAMH Researchers. Basic to the success of the Neuroscience Program is the animal research technician's care and observation of research animals with respect to their health and welfare.


The Pre-Clinical Department has an opening for two casual animal health technicians at the Research Assistant I level to cover on weekends, statutory holidays and vacations. Some weekday hours may be required on a regular basis as well. The position involves animal care, including husbandry and health monitoring as well as some cage wash duties. The incumbent will perform routine animal care duties including: feeding, watering and changing the animals, overseeing and recording the general well-being of all animals and the cleanliness of the Animal Housing Areas. Animal handling and injections will also be required. These positions are located at both the College and Russell Street sites.



The successful candidate will have completed secondary school. One year equivalent experience in animal research or a veterinary practice would be considered an asset.  Experience working with rats and mice in a research setting and experience in general wet lab procedures is preferred. Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to work with a diverse team of staff, students and researchers with minimal supervision is essential. Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.

Salary Range:               $19.82 to $24.44 per hour
