IMPORTANT NEWS FOR ALL EXAM APPLICANTS

Please note that online applications must be completed once started, including an upload of ALL supporting documents. If any information or documents are missing from your application you will be denied entry into the certification process and will need to wait until the next exam cycle to apply.

Effective for the 2019 Exam Cycle:

  • The ARLAT-Administrative program will no longer be offered.
  • Candidates who wish to pursue the ARLAT Module Program can complete the three modules together in an accelerated program, or one exam each year. The ARLAT 1,2 and the ARLAT 2,3 programs will no longer be offered.
  • Members involved with CALAS certification in the last two years are aware that study material and exams are evolving.  The goal is to update study materials to be relevant to current research needs and promote best practice.  Research needs and what is best practice are evolving at increased rates as science and technology are advancing even faster.  It is difficult for CALAS to maintain a current and relevant written manual.  For these reasons, the organization will be transitioning to providing core competencies and a reading list as study material for exam candidates.  The exam will also be reviewed and portions will be revised to ensure it matches the core competencies and reading list.  This is not an easy or quickly completed endeavor, especially for a volunteer-based organization.

The 2018/19 exam cycle is a transition year focusing on updating the RLAT certification stream.  The CALAS manual will still be part of the study materials and questions related to that material will still be part of the written and oral exam.  The new core competencies and reading list will also be available to candidates.  We do not anticipate on being able to cover all topics with the reading list this year as papers need to be reviewed, sources finalized, and questions created from them by individual volunteers.  Then that content is reviewed and approved by a committee.  Where information is covered on the reading list and by the manuals, candidates should consider the reading list as current material that supersedes the CALAS Manual.   The Education Committee and Certifications Committee will work to update as much of the exam as they can this year.  However, a completely updated exam will not be in place for this exam cycle.  Volunteer efforts will focus on areas where the manual and exam content is outdated or erroneous.  The National Office will notify candidates in the 2018/2018 exam cycle if particular areas of the CALAS manual are not required for study.

Also in transition is the CALAS website, which members use to apply for Certification exams.  The process will be the same this year.  Please read the web material carefully!  The application date has been extended this year due to the tremendous amount of change occurring.  This will allow members plenty of time to take in the new material and work through any new processes.

An additional communique will be released to answer questions and provide regular updates to the membership in the coming months.
