Associate Registered Laboratory Animal Technician Administrative

The Associate Registered Laboratory Animal Technician Administrative (ARLATA) exam is for candidates that are currently office staff working in a laboratory animal setting. Candidates take the ARLATA 1, 2 and 3 take home and written exams only and once they have enough hours in the field, they can apply to take the ARLAT3 oral exam and achieve their ARLAT certification. Candidates may choose to take the one exam per year or choose the accelerated program.

The qualifications and document required to apply:

ARLATA 1
Application Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent and full-time office employment at time of application (October 1st) in the laboratory animal science field Documentation Required by CALAS/ACSAL: High School Diploma  or equivalent documentation  and Résumé You will be required to submit all relevant certifications, degrees and schools you have attended

ARLATA 2
Application Requirement: Completion of ARLAT 1 no more than 2 years prior (2015 for 2017 cycle) and 12 months full-time office employment or a minimum of 1500 hours at time of application (October 1st) in the laboratory animal science field. Annually renewed their membership Documentation Required by CALAS/ACSAL: Résumé You will be required to submit all relevant certifications, degrees and schools you have attended

ARLATA 3
Application Requirement: Completion of ARLAT 1 &2 no more than 2 years prior (2015 for 2017 cycle) and 24 months full-time office employment or a minimum of 3000 hours at time of application (October 1st) in the laboratory animal science field. Annually renewed their membership Documentation Required by CALAS/ACSAL: Résumé You will be required to submit all relevant certifications, degrees and schools you have attended

ARLATA Accelerated 1 & 2
Application Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent and 12 months full-time office employment or a minimum of 1500 hours at time of application (October 1st) in the laboratory animal science field Documentation Required by CALAS/ACSAL: High School Diploma or equivalent documentation  and Résumé You will be required to submit all relevant certifications, degrees and schools you have attended

ARLATA Accelerated  2 & 3

The Exam (ARLATA)

The following information is about the exam and the deadlines to ensure you can commit to the time commitment in participating in the CALAS/ACSAL Registry program

ARLATA 1

Proctored written exam

  • 60 single answer multiple choice questions each worth one mark.
  • The total time allotted is TWO (2) hours.
  • Passing mark is 80%

ARLATA 2

Proctored written exam

  • 100 single answer multiple choice questions each worth one mark.
  • The total time allotted is TWO (2) hours.
  • Passing mark is 60%

ARLATA 3

Multiple Choice

  • 65 single answer multiple choice questions each worth one mark.
  • The total time allotted is 2.5 hours
  • Exam takes place mid-April
  • Passing mark is 65%
