Associate Registered Laboratory Animal Technician

 

The Associate Registered Laboratory Animal Technician (ARLAT) is comprised of three fascicles. Candidates can choose to write one fascicle per year or can accelerate through the program in one year.  Only complete application packages, including the documents specified below and payment, received by the posted deadline, will be considered for review.

 

ARLAT Application Requirements

 

ARLAT 1 Application Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent and at least part-time employment at time of application (October 1st) in the laboratory animal science field Documentation Required by CALAS/ACSAL: High School Diploma  or equivalent documentation  and Résumé You will be required to submit all relevant certifications, degrees and schools you have attended

 

ARLAT 2 Application Requirement: Completion of ARLAT 1 no more than 2 years prior (2017 for 2019 cycle) and 12 months full-time employment or a minimum of 1500 hours at time of application (October 1st) in the laboratory animal science field. Annually renewed their membership Documentation Required by CALAS/ACSAL: Résumé You will be required to submit all relevant certifications, degrees and schools you have attended

 

ARLAT 3 Application Requirement: Completion of ARLAT 1 &2 no more than 2 years prior (2017 for 2019 cycle) and 24 months full-time employment or a minimum of 3000 hours at time of application (October 1st) in the laboratory animal science field. Annually renewed their membership Documentation Required by CALAS/ACSAL: Résumé You will be required to submit all relevant certifications, degrees and schools you have attended

 

Accelerated 1, 2 & 3

 

Application Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent and 24 months full-time employment or a minimum of 3000 hours at time of application (October 31st) in the laboratory animal science field Documentation Required by CALAS/ACSAL: High School Diploma or equivalent documentation  and Résumé You will be required to submit all relevant certifications, degrees and schools you have attended

 

About The Exam

 

The following information is about the exam and the deadlines to ensure you can commit to the time commitment in participating in the CALAS/ACSAL Certification program

 

ARLAT 1  Take Home written exam

  • 80 single answer multiple choice questions each worth one mark.
  • Passing mark is 80%

ARLAT 2 Proctored written exam

  • 80 single answer multiple choice questions each worth one mark.
  • The total time allotted is TWO (2) hours.
  • Passing mark is 60%

ARLAT 3 Multiple Choice & Oral/Practical Exam

Multiple Choice Exam

 

  • 65 single answer multiple choice questions each worth one mark.
  • The total time allotted is 2.5 hours
  • Exam takes place mid-April
  • Passing mark is 65%

 

Oral/Practical Exam

  • Only candidates that were successful in the multiple choice take the oral/practical exam
  • The oral/practical exam takes place in June
  • Passing mark is 60%
