8:30am – 12:00 (Aprox. to be confirmed with the final program)
Laboratory investigation is a critical component of vivarium management from both an animal welfare and research integrity perspective. This workshop will review different aspects of laboratory investigation and explore associated technologies including their benefits and limitations. It will cover routine animal health monitoring, including health checks and sentinel programs, as well as in-depth investigations that affect individual animals or large groups or colonies of animals. The importance of record keeping will be stressed. Attendees will be encouraged to share their own experiences during an interactive discussion. In the second half of the workshop attendees will view a demonstration and then perform their own post mortem examinations on either mice or rats. This workshop will be led by an experienced veterinary pathologist.
